Agony functions as the "Hard" mode of Halls of Torment.

It is unlocked for each Hall by defeating its Lord, and can be enabled by starting a round via the Shrine of Torment.

Meter & Rank

This mode adds an Agony Meter and Agony Rank to gameplay.

• When the Agony Meter fills to 100%, it is reset to 0% and the Agony Rank increases by 1.
• The maximum Agony Rank is 5.0. The Agony Meter displays "MAX" at Agony 5.

Rarity

Agony introduces Uncommon variants of all items, which have stronger effects than normal.

Scaling

The following are scaled according to Agony Rank:

• Enemy Count
• Enemy Health
• XP Drops
  • Haunted Caverns: +52.9% Base XP per Rank
  • Ember Grounds: +31% Base XP per Rank
  • Forgotten Viaduct: +24% Base XP per Rank
  • Frozen Depths: +39.5% Base XP per Rank
  • Chambers of Dissonance: +13% Base XP per Rank

• Champion Spawns: -9s Base Spawn Time per Rank

Mechanics

The Agony Meter is affected by the following factors:

• Over time, the meter slowly increases.
  • 1 Agony Rank is gained every 4m 48s (24m for 5 Ranks).
• Reviving decreases the Agony Meter by 20%.

Champions

Main article: Champion

A new enemy type, Champion, is also introduced. They have a similar appearance to bosses, but with a distinct yellow outline.

Torment Shards

Main article: Torment Shard

Torment Shards are a currency which can only be earned with Agony/Torment enabled.
