This well has dried up long time ago. Now it leads to the very halls you helped me escape. But if you ever happen to find the other end, you might want to drop a trinket into the bucket. Then I'll hoist it up and make it available to you up here. What do you say?

The Wellkeeper is an NPC available in the Camp after rescuing him from the Ember Grounds.

The Wellkeeper offers a service that allows Heroes to retrieve items from the Halls via the Well, and purchase them with Gold for permanent use.

About[]

Appearance[]

Initially, the Wellkeeper is found in ragged clothing. As more and more purchases are made, his and his shop's appearance gradually become more gaudy and flamboyant. He eventually loses his plain clothes for regal crimson robes, caparisoned with gold accessories, and dons a crimson beret.

Personality[]

The Wellkeeper has a smug and penurious attitude, as evidenced by the fact that he charges the player, his benefactor, for retrieved items. He also speaks poorly of the other 2 NPCs.

Synopsis[]

  • The Wellkeeper is initially locked in a cage in Ember Grounds, due to his failed business attempts in the Halls.
  • He is rescued by the player, who finds a key and brings it to him.
  • He sets up shop in the Camp on his carpet.
  • After completing Milestones II: GreedMilestones II
    Greed
, he mysteriously vanishes, having left behind a Gold trail to The Vault.
    • From this point on, Items retrieved from the Well are stashed immediately, and no longer need to be purchased from him.
    • It is later revealed that he has become its Lord, the Lord of Greed.

Dialogue[]

  • Praise the gods! Another mortal soul! I beg of you, release me from this wretched cage. The key must be somewhere nearby.
  • You're back! Please, free me from this accursed place! Quick, the shadows are closing in!"
  • You've earned my deepest gratitude... for the rescue, of course! And, since we've made such a great team down there, I have a proposition for you.
  • This well has dried up long time ago. Now it leads to the very halls you helped me escape. But if you ever happen to find the other end, you might want to drop a trinket into the bucket. Then I'll hoist it up and make it available to you up here. What do you say?

  • About Wellkeeper: Me? Oh, I'm just trying to get by. Just like everyone else up here, y'know. I've had my share of demons and monstrosities down below. There's no fair bargaining with those. Believe me, I've tried. All it got me was getting locked up in that rusty cage. But now I'm here, thanks to you!
  • About Cupbearer: What's that potion stirrer's deal anyway? If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that you can't trust anyone who won't take your gold for a favor. Welfare? Ha... that's just another word for a failing business.
  • About Scriptor: He's been eyeing me from under his hood since the moment he arrived. I reckon friars like him don't carry much coin, so there's no friendship to be made... at least not for me.
